Dollar Spot

Mycelium (looks like cotton) of the dollar spot fungus on the grass tennis courts. The wet, humid weather is perfect growing conditions for the fungus - the mower is taking much of the moisture off the grass. Limiting leaf wetness is a solid cultural practice in controlling Dollar Spot.

Clay Court Drainage

While Longwood's clay courts 1-8 are playable sooner than other clay courts on the property after a long rain, it is not the same for rains of short duration. Last night we had about a half inch of rain in a very short time and this morning clay courts 9-14 will be playable sooner than 1-8. There are other factors besides duration of rain that affect the time it takes to open a clay court, but we wanted to show how conditions are different each day here at Longwood.
