The Golf Course Superintendents of America produce webcasts every month on agronomic topics. Yesterday Andrew and I watched Dr DaCosta of UMass give a presentation on winter injury of turf. There is a great deal of new research coming out on why winter injury to turfgrass occurs and on the management techniques you can implement to help prevent it. The webcast provided a lot of this new information. Yes that is Andrew pictured in one of the presentation slides.

Deputy Groundsman Nathan Salmore grew up in Colorado and is a Bronco's fan. He came back from Denver with this T shirt thinking his enthusiastic support of the Bronco's along with Peyton Manning will propel them up to the winning ways of the Patriots. Yeah right!
On another football note - after crushing Jeff last week, I am facing Nate this week in the grounds crew fantasy football league. Should be another easy win for me!

Trials
Turfgrass trials are proceeding along the Middlesex Road area. Nine areas have been marked, killed, aerated and dethatched (mimicking a grass court cultural program). Below Jeff is giving his best jeffort and seeding three of the trial areas with perennial ryegrass. Each of the areas will be treated with a different regiment - we will be checking germination time, Poa annua infestation and the effectiveness of three different rates of a Poa annua herbicide.
