Winter Landscape

Although we have had a lot of rain and warm temperatures the last few days, the grounds have essentially been under snow cover since mid December. Most of the snow is now gone, but conditions remain very wet. Thankfully temperatures haven't dropped too fast and the grass has not been subject to winter injury.
(see this blogs April 24, 2009 entry for more information on winter injury)

There are many plants on the grounds that have great bark and look beautiful in winter. Two examples above are the dogwood in front of the garage and the maple in the parking lot area.

Patriots and Turfgrass

A Boston Globe article on field playing conditions. (click on the title "Patriots and Turfgrass")

Not a bad article considering most sports columns that talk about fields are usually not accurate.
