Davis Cup

Fellow sports turf manager, Luke Yoder, Tweeted these pictures of the temporary Davis Cup stadium in left field of Petco Park in San Diego.  I am sure he has hosted many unusual events on his field over the years, but this is something new.

Great aerial view of the park - if you look at about 1 PM in the picture you see a tall structure - that is a Marriott Hotel where I Have stayed many times. As I was a a member of their top customer group I got to stay in the executive level where we had our own lounge and it looked right into the ballpark so we could see ballgames for free. The section of the city is known as the Gaslamp District for a reason which should be self explanatory - the top restaurants and clubs are in this district - not "Old Town" which is touted by tourist magazines and is a collection of downscale Mexican restaurants and curio shops, in my opinion.

Petco is also right around the corner from the Convention Center and the Marriott Marina Towers hotel which is quite upscale and on the harbor.

Wow, what an amazing idea! I would never have thought of hosting an event set up like that. Although, not much different from hosting a concert I suppose.

Maybe we could erect a temporary stadium for the next Grounds Crew Classic, Mike!?
